A fair question

How is it kept safe?

Every kennel asks this, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a badge. Here is exactly how your kennel’s records are protected, in plain English, and at the bottom, the things we do not do.

Your own kennel, on its own

Your kennel gets its own site and its own database. Nothing is shared with another kennel, so a problem at somebody else’s kennel cannot reach your records. There is no one big database with everybody in it.

Locked in the post and in the cupboard

Everything travels over a secure connection, and it is encrypted where it is stored. That is true of every page, every photo and every backup.

Passwords nobody can read back

Your staff password is never kept as a password. It is scrambled with a one-way scramble, so nobody can read it back — not a thief, and not us. The same goes for staff PINs and your recovery key.

Sign-ins that expire

A staff sign-in lasts twelve hours and then asks again. The sign-in is held in a cookie a web page cannot read, which is what stops the common trick of stealing one.

It gets harder to guess, fast

Wrong passwords are counted, and the wait grows with each one until guessing is pointless. Public forms — the waiver, the enquiry — are capped as well, so nobody can flood them.

Staff see what staff need

When an employee signs in, the money is taken out before the records ever leave the server. It is not hidden on screen where a curious person could find it. It is not sent at all.

Families see their own dogs

A family signs in with their name, their dog and the last four digits of the phone number you have on file, and they see their dogs and nobody else’s.

No card numbers, anywhere

The software never asks for a card number, so there is nothing of that kind to steal. Families pay you the way they always have.

Everything is written down

Payments, edits and deletions are logged, so you can see what happened and when. You can download a full backup of your kennel any day you like — it is your information, and it stays that way.

If you host it yourself

After your first year you can run the software on your own account. Everything above still applies, because it is built into the software — the separation, the hashing, the sign-in rules and the logging all come with it.

If we look after it

Then the backups and the boring safety work are ours, and a fix reaches you without you doing anything.

Ask us anything

If your question is not answered here, ask it. A real person who knows how it is built will answer, usually the same day.
